It's a heck of a fun game, but it is more of a game of chance rather than a game of strategy. If you are looking for the big 35-1 score, then roulette is your game. But if you are a grinder and want to try and earn a bit of steady income, then you should probably stick to blackjack or poker.
In terms of being social, roulette is probably the best game out there. The layout of a blackjack table doesn't allow it to be too much of a social game; the players are seated at the table, and onlookers stand behind them, watching. Normally blackjack players can get annoyed if people are standing behind them as well. For a game of poker, the players are generally deep in thought and don't want to be distracted by onlookers. You won't see too much high-fiving at a poker game.
However, roulette is a very social game. It is the players vs. the house, not player versus player, so there is a feeling of comraderie and friendship at the table. Just the layout of the table itself is conductive to a social environment; a long narrow table, and the participants stand instead of sitting.
Whereas in a game like poker or blackjack where each player had a different set of cards, in roulette everyone is playing with the same roulette wheel and the same little white ball. Plus, you can all bet on the same thing; if everyone decides to bet on red and the white ball lands in the red slot, everybody wins.
In a game of roulette, there can sometimes be 50 people either playing at or observing the table at one time, which produces a pretty social atmosphere. You can cheer and high-five, as playing roulette doesn't really require much concentration; you just lay down your bet based on what you think is going to land next.
Roulette is definitely a game of fun, not to be taken seriously, and if you want to have a good time, place your bets at the roulette table.
